A bill by state Rep. Leo Berman exempting Texas-made firearms, gun accessories and ammunition sold within the state from federal regulation and law — including registration — was heard in a House committee on Monday.

The bill also provides for the Texas Attorney General’s office to defend Texans who run afoul of the federal government because of this law.

“Under the 9th and 10th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution, states have responsibility for regulating intrastate commerce,” Berman said. “The federal government has no role.”

The “US guns are responsible for Mexico Violence” meme just won’t go away.

In fact, based on the below, I’d say some sort of gun ban legislation is on the table inside of 6 months (probably sooner)

I know that Moral Flexibility’s not doing much with the zombie thing anymore, but last week at SXSW interactive I met the guys behind Lost Zombies a “Community Generated Zombie Documentary” and immediately thought of him and the Zombie Squad.

The mayor of El Paso is on BBC World News right now talking about how most of the guns used by drug traffickers “high powered .50 cal sniper machine guns” are purchased legally in the US and shipped illegally to Mexico.

“Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don’t think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more.”

You know… “enough already” like “one gun a month” and stuff.

Whatever his motives, whatever underpinned his passion for guns, Charlton Heston, in demanding equal treatment for blacks in the 1950s and later calling for everyone to have the right to bear arms, was a better representative of the spirit of American equality than any of those gun control campaigners who turned him into their favourite redneck whipping boy. You don’t have to be a friend of the NRA or a supporter of the senseless shootings in America’s poorer communities to oppose gun control. You just have to have some healthy trust in the American people and some healthy distrust of the American state – both qualities that liberals in America and Europe seem to lack today.
